If you or a whānau/family member have been told you have cancer; our Matepukupuku Service can help with this journey
We may be able to help with:

Travel and parking costs related to appointments.

Supporting you and your whānau when attending specialist, hospital, doctor or treatment appointments.

Support during hospital stays.

Finding other supports you may need.

Cancer Support Groups in Porirua – Free Monthly Hui at Our Marae-Based Hauora

This is a FREE service that supports our Kaumatua (the elderly), promoting health and well-being, health literacy and education, and promoting companionship
Our Cancer Support Group is a free, community-led service held in the heart of Porirua. We welcome all kaumātua, tangata whaiora, and their whānau to connect, learn, and heal together in a safe and supportive environment.
Established inJune 2022, this group is facilitated by a Registered Nurse from MMHC. Our gatherings take place at our marae-based hauora (health service), promoting health literacy, emotional wellbeing, and meaningful companionship.

Matepukupuku Tāna Support Rōpū

first Monday of the month at 7pm to 9pm
This is an invitation for tāne with matepukupuku/cancer or tāne supporting someone with cancer to attend a group/rōpū.
Our Men’s Cancer Support Group is a free, community-led space based in the heart of Porirua. It is a place for tāne living with cancer, survivors, and those supporting them to come together, talk openly, and support one another in a respectful and understanding environment.
What to expect:

A culturally safe space for Māori and Pacific men

Connection, camaraderie, and support in a relaxed, welcoming environment
Our aim is to ensure men in Porirua have access to cancer support that is practical, holistic, and mana-enhancing, recognising the unique challenges men often face in speaking up and seeking support.
